ecoEnergy Assessment Incentive for Industry

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) offers a financial incentive to help industrial companies conduct process integration studies that identify opportunities for increasing energy efficiency and improving production processes. By using energy more efficiently, industry can become more competitive and help reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) and air pollution.

Register with NRCan's leadership network of CIPEC Leaders to become eligible for the incentive outlined below. Incentive proposals must be approved by NRCan before the assessment begins.

Process Integration Study Incentive

Process Integration (PI) studies go beyond conventional energy audits to look at the overall plant processes and systems and their interactions. Through the systematic and rigorous analysis of processing steps, utility systems, and their interactions, PI studies determine the most efficient use of energy, water and raw materials.

The Process Integration Study Incentive can be used to help defray the cost of hiring a professional engineering firm to identify and assess the most effective and efficient energy-saving opportunities in a large or moderately complex industrial process, including the design of new production units and/or modifications to existing installations.

Funding is available for up to 50 percent of the cost of a PI study, to a maximum of $50,000.

Benefits to Industry

By implementing the recommendations of a process integration study, industrial companies can

  • Reduce energy consumption (typically 5 to 35 percent reduction)
  • Reduce GHGs and air pollution
  • Reduce water usage and effluent production
  • Reduce raw material losses
  • Increase profitability
  • Kick-start a company’s energy management strategy
