Montréal-Charny-Québec City train

Our Montréal-Charny-Québec City train whisks you to and from downtown Montréal and downtown Québec City. If you want to board or get off at Charny station, you can also take our Montréal-Percé-Gaspé or Montréal-Halifax trains.

Please note that station locations on some Google maps may not be entirely accurate. We are currently verifying the exact locations of all our stations.

Classes and services available

Two classes are available. For a description of the services (meals, baggage, etc.) and cars to which you have access, follow the link for the class of your choice:

• Comfort class (economy), which lets you travel as far as possible for as little as possible.
• VIA 1 class, the choice of demanding travellers looking for excellent meals included in the ticket price and many privileges.

All trains running between Montréal and Québec City now use VIA's new Renaissance cars. On these new Renaissance trains, which each has a baggage car, you are allowed only one carry-on piece of luggage. However, you may check up to a maximum of seven pieces, four free of charge. Please note though that you will not be able to bring your pets with you during the summer peak season, from May 1 to September 30.

In order to update our equipment, we may temporarily replace Renaissance cars with LRC cars on certain departures. These cars do not offer a checked baggage service, but allow you to bring onboard two articles of carry-on baggage.

Assigned seating

On these trains, you will be entitled to assigned seating. If you travel with a group of people, this guarantees that all members of your party will be together if enough adjacent seats are available at the time you purchase your tickets. As the Renaissance cars used between Montréal and Québec City include a row of individual seats, you can obtain a single seat with a window and direct access to the aisle. Single seats will be allotted to you automatically if available at the time of purchase. Follow this link to find out more.

Schedules, fares and reservations

Fares? Very affordable! For example, a one-way trip in Comfort class between Montréal and Québec City costs $49 (Comfort discounted fare, purchase five days in advance, taxes extra).

The Montréal-Québec City train offers you a choice of three or four departures per day in either direction. The complete journey generally takes a little under three hours.
