Is your computer compliant?
To connect, all you need is a wireless-enabled laptop with the Wi-Fi switch in the "on" position. Our systems use the 802.11b norm. If your device is not compliant, you can easily make it so with a PCMCIA card.
Please note: PDAs (personal digital assistants) are currently not compatible with our Wi-Fi systems. Check this page regularly for updates concerning PDA compatibilty.
Now log on
First, locate an access zone (or hotspot) indicated by the logo, then:
Turn on your wireless-enabled laptop or handheld device. The Wi-Fi icon will appear at the bottom right-hand side of your screen.
Launch your preferred Internet navigator.
You'll be automatically connected to the VIA Rail wireless Internet portal and offered a choice of three payment options.
Choose the option that best suits you and start surfing in just a few seconds!
It's always best to start your browsing through a non-secure or private web site, such as our own at www.viarail.ca. Then proceed to your Virtual Private Network or wherever you wish to enjoy secure access.
Connecting through VPNs (virtual private networks).
Access through a VPN will reduce system connection
speed in general. Instead of using a VPN for corporate
e-mail, we suggest that you access your e-mail through
a secure web mail site (if available). Although we support
most VPNs, they are often unstable in the wireless
environment and thus, not recommended.
To log out, click the Log-out button appearing in the pop-up window displayed during the session (do not close this window while you are connected or your session will be interrupted).
