Health Canada warns public not to use Stamen and Bell Magicc Bullet

OTTAWA - Health Canada is warning consumers not to use two health products, named Stamen and Bell Magicc Bullet, after they were both found to contain an unauthorized ingredient, sildenafil. Sildenafil is a prescription drug approved for male erectile dysfunction, sold under the brand name Viagra®. Inappropriate use of sildenafil could cause severe adverse reactions.

Sildenafil should not be used by individuals who are taking any nitrate medication or products. Nitrate medications are commonly used for some types of heart disease. Concurrent use could result in the development of potentially life-threatening low blood pressure. In extremely rare instances, the use of sildenafil could result in penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency.

Health Canada is working with distributors to remove both products from the market. Stamen is distributed by RandA Foods, Ontario. Bell Magicc Bullet is distributed by Bell Lifestyle Products Inc. in Mississauga.

Neither product has been approved for sale by Health Canada nor do either carry a DIN (drug identification number) on the label. Nor are the two products labelled to contain sildenafil. One adverse drug reaction associated with the use of Stamen was reported to Health Canada. Health Canada has not received any reports of adverse reactions associated with the use of Bell Magicc Bullet.

Health Canada is issuing this warning to advise consumers, health care professionals, pharmacists, retailers and the provincial Ministries of Health of the safety issues related to the use of Stamen and Bell Magicc Bullet. Consumers who have used Stamen or Bell Magicc and have concerns should contact their physicians or health care providers.
