Reasons to Work With Us

Flexible business arrangements. As a federal government organization, CETC-Ottawa's objective is to generate environmental, economic and social benefits by encouraging the wise use of conventional energy and the increased use of renewable and alternative energies. As a partner to business, CETC-Ottawa aims to help you reach your business goals. Our partnerships with industry have demonstrated many times over that meeting both of these objectives at the same time is possible. CETC-Ottawa has the flexibility to tailor our assistance to meet your specific needs. Terms can include fee-for-service agreements, cost-sharing and, under certain circumstances, financial assistance.

Our extensive facilities and expertise. CETC-Ottawa has world-class research facilities, laboratories for advanced combustion, chemical processing and development, metallurgical fuels and fuels characterization. CETC-Ottawa employs over 200 people with a vast experience in the development and deployment of environmentally responsible and energy-efficient technologies. Staff members are seasoned high-tech professionals and innovators in their fields. Our staff are able to provide technical support and, where required, laboratory services at every stage of the technology development cycle, from feasibility studies and basic R&D, to field-testing and incremental technology improvements, to market studies and evaluation services. Once a technology becomes market-ready, CETC-Ottawa can assist companies in transferring processes and products to the marketplace.

A single door of entry to a worldwide network. CETC-Ottawa offers you the opportunity to join an extended family of partners, in Canada and around the world. Through our laboratories and programs, CETC-Ottawa has worked with hundreds of private sector organizations from dozens of industries, providing us with an extensive list of contacts who share an interest in technology innovation. We also have active agreements in several other countries, notably the U.S., Japan, China, India, and several European countries. We work cooperatively with other government departments, other levels of government, industry associations, universities and standards writing organizations.

Our credibility and reputation in delivering science and technology. The federal government is Canada's largest investor in science and technology, and is committed to ensuring that its research centres play an effective role in commercializing and diffusing new technologies. As the federal government's largest centre devoted solely to energy technologies, CETC-Ottawa brings considerable financial and human backing into its projects. For some companies, such as small-to-medium-sized enterprises striving to enter new markets, CETC-Ottawa's involvement can provide the credibility and solidity to attract investment. For others, CETC-Ottawa's impartial expertise and testing capabilities can help ensure fair treatment in an increasingly environmentally sensitive marketplace.

We can expedite access to foreign markets. CETC-Ottawa can help you tap into foreign markets by providing facilitation services, identifying project opportunities, assisting companies in accessing other government programs and services and organizing targeted trade missions. Our efforts are focused on enhancing market opportunities for renewable energy (mainly small hydro, biomass and wind), energy-efficient housing, clean combustion expertise and natural gas vehicles. In addition to promoting commercial ventures, CETC-Ottawa is aggressively pursuing opportunities for industrial partners to participate in projects funded by international financial institutions such as the World Bank.

We have the experience and infrastructure to manage successful partnerships. Partnership agreements at CETC-Ottawa come in a variety of forms, depending on the goal of the participants. In some, members represent different links in the chain of technology development, deployment and commercialization. Each contributes by bringing their piece of the puzzle. In others, organizations come together under consortia to support pre-competitive research or to solve a common problem. Whatever the objective, CETC-Ottawa has the experience and knowledge to facilitate the kind of partnerships that will get the job done.
