The Sustainable Buildings and Communities (SBC) group supports the Canadian building and renewable energy technology export industries in identifying and adapting products and systems for foreign markets.
We deliver targeted demonstration and deployment projects as well as support Canada’s international cooperation obligations. Our international activities include:
- The export of energy efficient housing systems to Japan, UK, Ireland and China through the Super E™ House Initiative,
- Technology transfer and support for sustainable housing and communities initiatives in Mexico through the La Casa Nueva/La Communidad Nueva initiative,
- Demonstrations of renewable energy initiatives for small hydro, wind-diesel integration, and solar crop drying technologies in China, Mexico, Costa Rica and India.
We also participate in strategic science and technology working groups, simulation research and development, and the development of tools, such as the International Small Hydro Atlas.
Who We Work With
Domestically, we work closely with other Federal departments such as Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Industry Canada, Environment Canada, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, International Trade Canada, the Canadian International Development Agency, other Government of Canada agencies, and private industry.
