Hydrogen and Fuel Cells

The Hydrogen and Fuel Cells area of HyFATE is made up of two programs - the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell R&D Program; and the Canadian Transportation Fuel Cell Alliance.

The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell R&D Program works on the following:

  • hydrogen production - to develop clean, efficient technologies for hydrogen production
  • hydrogen storage - to develop safe, efficient and cost-effective hydrogen storage materials, components and systems
  • fuel cells - to improve fuel cell technologies to lower costs and increase efficiency, reliability and lifetime
  • codes, standards and safety - to create and validate models to support the development of codes and standards and to develop technology for the safe use of hydrogen

Internationally, Canada works with the International Energy Agency and has a well-established working relationship with the US Department of Energy (DOE) in hydrogen and fuel cell R&D.
