Are knitting needles, crotchet hooks and sewing kits permitted in carry-on and checked baggage?


Knitting needles, crotchet hooks and sewing kits are permitted in carry-on and checked baggage.


Are scissors permitted in carry-on baggage?


Round-tip scissors are permitted in carry-on baggage; however, pointed scissors are not permitted in carry-on baggage; they may, however, be carried in checked baggage. 

Although pointed scissors with a cutting edge of four inches or less are permitted in carry-on baggage on flights departing from US airports, they are not permitted on carry-on baggage on flights departing from Canadian airports.


May I bring tools with me in my carry-on baggage?


Tools are not permitted in your carry-on baggage if your flight departs from a Canadian airport, but they may have to be carried in checked baggage.

Please note that small screwdrivers for repairing eyeglasses are permitted in carry-on baggage.
Please note that air carriers reserve the right to refuse items to be brought on board an aircraft, so we suggest that you contact your air carrier in advance for details.

Other countries may have different regulations regarding permitted and non-permitted items in carry-on.

May I bring a firearm in my carry-on or checked baggage?


Guns and rifles are not permitted in carry-on baggage.

You must seek approval from your air carrier to carry an unloaded firearm in your checked baggage. If the air carrier does not give its permission, you may not transport the item.


May I bring my relative’s cremated remains, which I am bringing for burial, on board the aircraft?


Cremated human remains in a container may be packed in carry-on baggage. The container must be accompanied by a death certificate and a cremation certificate. There are special procedures in place for screening cremated human remains.
