Jim has over 20 years of venture capital experience and now leads a team of Investment Directors focused on Advanced Technologies across Canada.

Prior to joining the BDC Venture Capital in 1996, Jim Orgill was Vice President of Innovation Ontario Corporation, which became one of the largest venture capital seed investors in technology firms in Canada. The Corporation was the 10th largest venture capital fund in the country with over $70 million dollars invested in 1994. Many of Jim's early stage investments at Innovation Ontario grew significantly and are now well known names in the business community including: Research in Motion, Certicom, Open Text, and Data Mirror.

Jim Orgill is a mechanical engineer with both Bachelor and Masters of Applied Science degrees from the University of Waterloo.

Simon brings to BDC roughly 20 years of experience in the semiconductor and wireless markets in executive and senior management positions at both Fortune 500 and start-ups. 

He joined Texas Instruments in the early days of Wireless Business Unit in Dallas and later lead the Wireless Infrastructure Systems team in Nice, France where his team architected TI's first solutions and established its roadmap that lead to a $200M+ business for TI.  Simon's entrepreneurial experience was gained while VP at Atsana Semiconductor where he lead Product Management , Marketing and Development ensuring Samsung's 2Mpixel camera phone hit production and then as COO securing the sell of Atsana to Mtekvision in Korea.  He was then recruited back to lead TI's newest emerging wireless business – Mobile Broadcast in Dallas.

Simon recently returned to Canada in fall of 2006 joining BDC"s Venture Capital group in Ottawa and now plays a leading role in all new semiconductor deals.

Simon holds both his Bachelors and Master's in Electrical Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada and is a Professional Engineer of Ontario.   Over the years his teams have won EDN's DSP of the Year award, Multimedia Processor of the Year and more recently the TI Product Innovation award.

Geoff has 14 years experience as a professional engineer in industrial automation and process control. Prior to joining the BDC in 2001, he worked for a large multi-national industrial process automation supplier. He has diverse operational experience in the process automation industry; his experience includes field service, system commissioning, engineering, management, and sales.

Geoff Catherwood holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from Simon Fraser University.

Jacques Dénommée joined BDC Venture Capital in 1996. He has accumulated over 23 years of corporate financing experience with small and medium-sized businesses through the BDC and CIBC. In 1997 he received the certification of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from The Association of Investment Managers and Researcher. Through the years Jacques Dénommée has occupied key positions on Board of Directors and advisory board of Company such as Miranda Technologies, Optosecurity, Triton Electronik and was instrumental in the execution of turn-around, mergers and acquisitions transaction and successful IPO with several technology companies.  Over the years, Jacques Dénommée have assisted numerous companies with the implementation of sound execution plan and proper risk management practices.

Jacques is a Past-President of the Rotary Club of Montreal, a humanitarian association dedicated to the betterment of the living conditions of humankind within his community and around the world; and he also sits on the Board of Trustees of his Church.

Jean-François joined BDC Venture Capital in 2001. Before joining the Bank, Jean-François was Project Manager with Honeywell and possesses over 5 years relevant experience as Project Manager in the fields of process control as well as industrial ventilation/instrumentation for both Honeywell and Preston Phipps.

Jean-François holds a Masters degree in Business Administration with a Major in Finance and Information Technology from École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) and a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal.

Tony holds the position of Director for BDC Venture Capital in the Halifax office. He is responsible for investing and managing venture capital investments in Atlantic Canada for BDC.  Prior to joining BDC, he spent 4 years as Senior Investment Manager with InNOVAcorp, a General Partner for the Nova Scotia First Fund, an early stage knowledge-based venture fund. Before joining InNOVAcorp, he worked 10 years as lawyer and Partner in the business law firm Little & Wright in London, Ontario. Tony has held multiple directorships in both public and private emerging growth companies in the Quebec and Atlantic region and is currently on the board of directors of six high growth technology companies.

Tony earned the Dalhousie Governor General’s Gold Medal for the top graduate student chosen from all faculties at Dalhousie University and the gold medal from the Dalhousie University MBA program. He also received his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Western Ontario where he won the Pitney Bowes Award for the top graduating Law Student in Ontario who combined academics, athletics and service to the community. Tony was the Volunteer Chairman of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement for Nova Scotia and is a Rotarian.
