For Science

Science and Innovation

Canada needs a new national approach to science and technology that brings together the country's best minds, working in the best facilities, and focused on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Canadian agriculture.

For more than a century, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada scientists and their partners have been working to create better opportunities for farmers and all Canadians through agricultural research and innovation.

With our 19 Research Centres spread across the country, our 600 scientific staff and research professionals among some 2,300 employees, AAFC's Research Branch is well established to conduct world class research to fulfill national research priorities.

As a publicly-funded research organization in Canada, AAFC recognizes the need to be held accountable to the highest scientific standards and value for money in its activities and services. To ensure science excellence and relevance in research activities, AAFC research programs and services and peer-reviewed projects are all aligned with the national research priorities outlined in the AAFC Science and Innovation Strategy. By aligning research endeavours with the Strategy, and developing and strengthening strong collaborative relationships with external stakeholders such as other governments, industry and academia, AAFC is contributing to establishing a competitive edge for the agriculture and agri-food sector and a better quality of life for Canadians.
