John Napier Turner (Liberal Party of Canada) was Prime Minister of Canada from June 30 to September 17, 1984. Before becoming Prime Minister he held several senior cabinet posts throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s with the Trudeau government. In 1970, as Minister of Justice, he amended the Criminal Code of Canada making improvements in hate propaganda laws. Mr. Turner was Leader of the Opposition from 1984 to 1990. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1962 and is a lawyer by profession. John Turner was born in Richmond, Surrey (England), on June 7, 1929.
