THE NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA IN THE YEAR 2000

ACTION PLAN

A NEW CHARTER FOR A NEW CENTURY

MARCH 18, 1996

PURPOSE

The National Film Board is Canada's public producer. It is an agent of social and cultural change, and it has been since its creation in 1939. Fifty-seven years later, the NFB is re-casting itself, determined to regain its leading role in interpreting Canada to Canadians and the world. This document outlines the course the National Film Board will take over the next five years. It is an action plan which re-shapes a venerable studio-style film organization to fit the new economic dictates, so it can better function in the digital, networked audiovisual industry of the 21st century.
