A collection of ten short films produced in the 1970s, offering audiences a point from which to assess the gains made by women over the last two decades and emphasizing the ongoing need for social and political change. The series provides a basis for the economic analysis of women's work inside and outside the home. Titles include: It's Not Enough: Most women do not work simply because they must (15 min. 57 sec.); Mothers Are People: Joy is a research biologist, a widow, and a mother who sees the absence of universal day care as a loss for children, too (7 min. 18 sec.); Luckily I Need Little Sleep: Kathy works as a nurse, sews for the children, maintains the house, and helps out on the family farm (7 min. 38 sec.); Tiger on a Tight Leash: Cathy, a mother of three and a university department head, discusses the effects of unpredictable day care on her life and the lives of her married students (7 min. 35 sec.); Would I Ever Like to Work: Joan, a welfare mother of seven, would like to work but day care costs more than she can afford (8 min. 53 sec.); "...and They Lived Happily Ever After": The views of a group of young girls and married women on marriage and motherhood are contrasted with advertisements extolling romance, weddings and babies (13 min. 7 sec.); Like the Trees: Rose, a Métis from northern Alberta, rediscovered her roots among the Woodland Cree (14 min. 30 sec.); They Appreciate You More: Aliette and Pierre are working parents with full-time jobs who share household responsibilities (14 min. 42 sec.); The Spring and Fall of Nina Polanski: An animated film about a woman who marries amidst fanfare and settles into domestic routine until she takes back her former self (5 min. 56 sec.); and Our Dear Sisters: Alanis Obomsawin, a North American Indian filmmaker, singer, and mother of an adopted child, talks about her life, her people, and single parenthood (14 min. 40 sec.).
