The Mirvish stage production of Dirty Dancing, which opened Oct. 31 in Toronto, has been extended for an additional 12 weeks.
Producers issued a press release Thursday saying that the "ecstatic response" of Toronto audiences has prompted an extension of the run to Aug. 31, 2008.

That means an additional 144,000 tickets are now on sale.
Canadian Jake Simons stars as Johnny Castle, Monica West is Frances "Baby" Houseman and Britta Lazenga is Penny in the stage adaptation of the 1987 movie.
The story follows 17-year-old Frances Houseman, known as Baby, as she reluctantly visits a summer resort with her family. There she meets brawny dance instructor Johnny and their relationship develops.
The creative team behind the successful London run of Dirty Dancing has brought its talents to Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre for this production.
This is the North American premiere of the show, written by Eleanor Bergstein, who also wrote the film.
