Good highway infrastructure is critical for not only economic health but for the safety of all Canadians.  The Surface Infastructure Programs Directorate (Highways) assists in providing the best surface transportation system for Canada and Canadians.

Although most highway matters are a provincial responsibility, Surface Program's role is to work closely with provinces and territories as well as international partners to ensure that the mobility of people and goods across Canada continues; and the quality of life and expansion of our economy is enhanced by the surface transportation system.
