Emergency Response Assistance Plan Requirements for Air Transport of
Dangerous Goods in Canada
Introduction
This Notice is of importance to those who handle, offer for transport,
transport or import dangerous goods requiring an Emergency Response Assistance
Plan (ERAP) as prescribed in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations
(TDGR), Part 7 - Emergency Response Assistance Plan (ERAP).
Regulatory Text
The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR), and, by
reference, the International Civil Aviation Organization Technical
Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (ICAO TI's),
2003/2004 regulate the transport of dangerous goods to, from and within Canada.
TDGR 12.1 (1) & (2) - General Requirements
Subsections12.1 (1) and (2) of the TDGR regulate the transport of dangerous
goods by air to, from and within Canada. These Subsections adopt by reference
Part 7 - Emergency Response Assistance Plan (ERAP), of the TDGR.
TDGR - Part 7 - Emergency Response Assistance Plan
Part 7 requires that, before a person offers for transport or imports certain
dangerous goods, the person must have a Transport Canada approved Emergency
Response Assistance Plan (ERAP).
The object of an ERAP is to ensure there is immediately available during
transport a suitable response to emergency situations involving the dangerous
goods for which the plan was created.
