QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, November 30, 2006 – The Honourable Vic Toews Q.C., Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Chantal Masse, a lawyer with the Montreal office of McCarthy Tétrault is appointed a Puisne Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec in the District of Montreal. She replaces Madam Justice J.M. Rousseau (Montreal) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Madam Justice Masse received a licence en droit in 1986 from Université Laval and was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1988. She has practised, since 1988, with the litigation department of McCarthy Tétrault, seven years in the Quebec office and eleven years in the Montreal office. Her practice expertise is in the area of civil litigation. Madam Justice Masse is Past President of the national civil liberties and constitutional law section, Canadian Bar Association and Past Member, Access to Information Committee, Barreau du Québec. She has been active on the Board of Directors of the Fondation Formons une famille and the Fondation Marie Robert.

This appointment is effective immediately.
