TAX COURT OF CANADA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT

OTTAWA, January 11, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Campbell J. Miller, Q.C., of Edmonton is appointed a judge of the Tax Court of Canada. He replaces the Honourable Alban Garon, who was appointed Chief Judge of the Tax Court of Canada.

Judge Miller received his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1977 and, in 1987, his LL.M. (First Class) from Cambridge. From the time of his call to the Bar of Alberta in 1978 until his appointment to the Tax Court of Canada, he practised law with the Edmonton firm of Bishop & McKenzie, specializing in corporate tax, estate planning and independent business practice. Judge Miller has taught tax law in both the business and law faculties of the University of Alberta and is a frequent presenter at professional conferences including the Bar Admission Course of the Law Society of Alberta and the Legal Education Society of Alberta.

This appointment is effective immediately.
