PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT

OTTAWA, January 31, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Linda Webber, a judge of the Prince Edward Island Supreme Court, Trial Division, is appointed a judge of the Prince Edward Island Supreme Court, Appeal Division. She replaces the Honourable G.E. Mitchell, who was appointed Chief Justice of Prince Edward Island.

Madam Justice Webber received her LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick in 1977. She was called to the State Bar of California in 1978 and to the Bar of Prince Edward Island in 1979. Madam Justice Webber was appointed to the Prince Edward Island Supreme Court, Trial Division, in 1997 and, just prior to her appointment to the Appeal Division, was serving as the Prince Edward Island representative on the Judges' Technology Advisory Committee.

This appointment is effective immediately.
