ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, October 11, 2002 - The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Patrick Joseph Flynn of Kitchener, is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice and will be assigned to Kitchener to replace Mr. Justice Ronald C. Sills who elected to become a supernumerary judge. Mr. Justice Flynn obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ottawa in 1978, and was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1980.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Justice Flynn was a partner with the Kitchener firm of Flynn & Sorbara where he was engaged in criminal and civil litigation, including construction law disputes and employment law matters.

Mr. Justice Flynn was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Advocates' Society, and the Ontario Court Criminal Liaison Committee, and had been serving as President of the Waterloo Law Association just prior to his appointment.

This appointment is effective immediately.
