Private Life

Prime ministers are some of the most-watched people in Canada. But they also have private lives, with family, friends and hobbies.

Of all the 20 prime ministers, only W. L. Mackenzie King and R. B. Bennett never married. Charles Tupper, Canada's sixth prime minister, was married for 66 years. Pierre Trudeau got married while he was prime minister.

Two of our recent prime ministers have been divorced. Being prime minister is a very busy job and doesn't leave much time for family life.

Did you know? Prime Minister Mackenzie King had a dog named Pat who was nearly as famous as he was! When Pat died, the newspapers printed articles about him.
