Why file online?

  • It's easy and convenient. You can use the service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through your bank or financial institution's website. It works with your schedule - anytime, anywhere. Stop waiting in line or going out in bad weather. No need to write cheques or visit a bank to make payments.
  • It's secure. It uses existing, secure and trusted bank networks.
  • It's accurate. You enter the information yourself. This helps eliminate potential processing errors.
  • It simplifies record keeping. You have less paper work. It's also easier to keep records. You get a confirmation number right away for each tax filing and payment.
  • It's cost effective. You will save money as your employees will not have to stand in line. You will also save on parking, gas, stamps and using your business cheques.
  • It's smart. You can future date your payments and never miss a deadline. Many financial institutions will allow you to post date your payments - up to one year in advance. This means you will avoid late payment charges and penalties.

Is there a fee?

The Ministry of Revenue does not charge or receive a fee for this service. But your bank may charge fees to your account. Find out before you start to file or pay taxes online.

Will my bank let me pay and file taxes online?

Most banks and financial institutions offer this service. To find out more, visit the website of your bank or financial institution.

If your financial institution is not on this list, please contact them directly.

How do I make sure my return and taxes get to the ministry on time?

Ask your bank or financial institution when you need to file or pay your taxes to meet the ministry's filing and payment deadlines. For example, you may be late if you submit tax returns or payments in the afternoon or early evening of the due date. It just may not be enough time for your bank to process your request. Note: if the due date falls on a weekend or holiday, you must pay or file your taxes on the next banking day.
