Environment Canada is responsible for ensuring compliance with the environmental acts and regulations it administers - in particular, those aimed at preventing pollution and conserving wildlife.
Enforcement involves three main activities: inspections to determine if an acts and regulations are being respected; investigations to collect evidence about alleged offences; and information gathering to support this work.
These activities are carried out by enforcement officers and inspectors across the country in cooperation with other federal, provincial and territorial organizations.
Information on how compliance is administered is provided in this section.
