Appendix B - Measles Surveillance: Guidelines for Laboratory Support

MEASLES CASE LABORATORY INVESTIGATION DECISION TREE

Considerations

Considerations

  • Laboratory confirmation of measles assumes the absence of recent measles vaccination.
  • All suspected measles cases must test negative for parvovirus B19 and rubella virus.
  • Interpretation of laboratory results must always consider the timing of specimen collection.
  • The final decision for determination of a true measles case must consider clinical, laboratory, and epidemiologic data.
