David Aebischer is leaving the NHL.
The veteran goaltender is bound for the Swiss Elite League after the Phoenix Coyotes agreed Friday to loan the Fribourg, Switzerland native to HC Lugano.

Aebischer, 29, appeared in one game for the Coyotes this season after signing a one-year $600,000 US deal with the team in July. Lugano will pick up the rest of his NHL salary.
Aebischer was assigned on Oct. 24 to the AHL's San Antonio Rampage, where he posted a 2-3-0 record with a 2.58 goals-against average and .898 save percentage in five games.
The Coyotes needed to make room in San Antonio for Alex Auld, who was sent down earlier this week after the NHL club claimed Ilya Bryzgalov off waivers last weekend.
Bryzgalov, who had been with Anaheim, shut out Los Angeles in his first Phoenix appearance, then backstopped the Coyotes to a 4-1 win over the Kings in his second start.
Aebischer has a 106-74-12-5 record with a 2.52 GAA and .912 save percentage in seven NHL seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens and the Coyotes.
