Third baseman Mike Lowell finalized a three-year, $37.5-million US contract with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.
Lowell, who was seeking a four-year deal, negotiated a $1.5-million US signing bonus with an annual salary of $12 million US.

"The tough part was searching between four years from other teams and three years with the Red Sox," he said. "But I cannot say that I'm upset with the situation.
"How can you be upset with the money that I'm going to be making in the next three years? And with the team that I believe is going to compete for a world title."
Lowell, 33, was paid $9 million US last season, when he was named the most valuable player in the World Series.
Lowell hit .400 (6-15) with three walks, four runs batted in and six runs scored as Boston swept the Colorado Rockies in four games for its seventh World Series title.
During the regular season, the four-time all-star averaged a career-high .324 in 154 games with 21 home runs, 120 runs batted in and 79 runs scored.
"I feel the fans have embraced me and I feel like I have embraced the fan base of Boston since Day 1," he said.
Lowell is a lifetime .280 hitter with 184 HRs, 778 RBIs and 636 runs in 1,296 games over 10 MLB seasons with the New York Yankees, Florida Marlins and Red Sox.
Boston acquired Lowell, pitcher Josh Beckett and catcher Guillermo Mota from Florida for Jesus Delgado, Harvey Garcia, Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez on Nov. 24, 2005.
