The long-haired guitarist played clubs for ten years before he hit big with his debut album, 'Guitar Town'.
At the peak of his popularity, Earle's career almost went up in smoke. Addicted to narcotics, he disappeared into Nashville's north end on what he's called 'a vacation in the ghetto.'
Arrested again and again for possession, he finally landed in a Tennessee jail. Since, he has cleaned up and came back a new man.
He's since written a play and a book of short stories and he's returned to music and activism with a vengeance. Earle has continued his long-standing battles against capital punishment and the erosion of civil liberties.
Earle recently made the move from Nashville to New York City with his new wife, singer Alison Moorer, who appears on his new album, an ode to the Big Apple called 'Washington Square Serenade'.

I love Steve Earle. I have for years, ever since I heard the song copperhead road. When was Steve in Canada, and what was he doing up here. I watched the interview on cbc.ca.,and I really enjoyed it. 11/15/2007 11:04:18 PM
One of the greatest songwriters left, and I mean left! Disagree with his Canamercian routine, but Steve is a true original--one all should heed... 11/15/2007 11:01:14 PM
