Torchwood follows the adventures of a team of investigators, led by the enigmatic Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), the former Time Agent and con man seen last season travelling with the Doctor in the most recent Doctor Who series. Set in the United Kingdom in the present day, Harkness ventures back to early 21st century Cardiff where he becomes a member of Torchwood Institute, a renegade criminal investigation group founded by Queen Victoria to battle hostile extraterrestrial and supernatural threats.
Although the public perception of the Torchwood Institute is that of a 'special operations group', it is a covert agency that investigates extraterrestrial incidents on Earth and scavenges alien technology for its own use to solve crime-both alien and human. Separate from the government, outside of the jurisdiction of the police and beyond the United Nations, everyone who works for Torchwood is young-under 35. Some say that's because it's a new science. Others say it's because they die young...
Torchwood also stars Eve Myles, Burn Gorman and Naoko Mori.
