Science Across Canada

From Newfoundland to Victoria, and from Toronto to Iqualuit, Health Canada scientists are providing the foundation of the department's mandate -- to help Canadians maintain and improve their health.

Health Canada employs 160 research scientists and more than 4,000 individuals working on science-related activities. Some of the scientists perform their work in our laboratories found in 15 locations across the country. Many employees working in science and research can also be found at health centres, nursing stations and Health Canada offices located throughout our regions.

A large part of the science and research funded by Health Canada is performed through partnerships with provincial and municipal governments, community health organizations, First Nations and Inuit groups, and universities and research institutes, to name a few.

Health Canada Laboratories

Our laboratories focus on a number of different areas within science and research, from diseases and health conditions to the study of food, drugs and consumer products. The research conducted in our laboratories is used to write policy and to make heath-related decisions.
