Resources for Project Funding

The Federal Tobacco Control Strategy (FTCS) was announced by the Minister of Health in April 2001. The FTCS represents a comprehensive, integrated, and multi-faceted approach to tobacco control in Canada. It is the federal contribution to the national tobacco plan endorsed in 1999 by the Ministers of Health. It focuses on four mutually reinforcing components: prevention, cessation, protection, and harm reduction.

At its inception, the FTCS was a major investment of over $560 million divided among five federal departments over five years, of which $480 million was dedicated to fund Health Canada initiatives.
