Environmental Research Division

The Environmental Research Division:

  • Conducts, coordinates and funds contaminants-related research in collaboration with the Assembly of First Nations, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) regions, and the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development;
  • Coordinates the replacement or upgrading of diesel-fuel tanks and the remediation of fuel oil contaminated sites at Health Canada sites on reserves across Canada;
  • Operates laboratory services that support the research program by providing human tissue analysis of priority pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and mercury; and
  • Coordinates and manages FNIHB’s drinking water-related research and statistical analysis of First Nations drinking water quality data.
