The man whose body was found in a burning dumpster lit the fire to keep himself warm, Edmonton police said Friday.
Surveillance video near the downtown Greyhound bus station showed a man in his 50s climbing into the dumpster and then setting a fire that somehow got out of control.
Shelter staff who work with the homeless in the area said it's common for people to sleep in dumpsters on cold nights.
The man's body was found Thursday morning.
