Transport Canada, the Canada Safety Council and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, through their partnership with the National Police Award for Traffic Safety, are proud to present Canada's first Community Based Traffic Safety - Best Practices Warehouse, designed specifically for front-line police officers and their communities.

The warehouse provides access to those outstanding community based strategies that have been successful in addressing traffic safety concerns. Initially, nominations for the National Police Award for Traffic Safety will form the core of data base entries, however police services are encouraged to share their problem solving techniques with Canada's police community by providing submissions to the data base.

Within the community based approach to traffic safety, the police consult with their communities, government agencies and private sector partners in identifying and prioritizing those issues that threaten the safety of road users. Also within the partnership, strategies are developed and implemented to address identified concerns. The Best Practices Warehouse is intended to support community based strategy development by providing a forum where best practices strategies can be shared. A community facing any traffic safety concern, be it in relation to in-line skating or the impaired driver, can access the warehouse and learn from the strategies of those who have been faced with similar concerns. Dialogue and information sharing is encouraged among police officers, their communities and road safety stakeholders.
