Hearths of Iron

From the beginning of the eighteenth to the end of the nineteenth centuries, the cast-iron stove was the most popular means of heating the Canadian home. The stoves in this exhibit illustrate the rise, decline and renewal of the stove’s importance as a heating device, and as an item of household furniture.
