The Quilt of Belonging
From:  April 2, 2005
To:      April 20, 2005

The Quilt of Belonging is a collaborative and permanent textile project on a national scale that will be a lasting testimony to our heritage and identity. The quilt represents ethnic and Aboriginal cultural groups across Canada. Each of these 263 groups has been invited to produce a hand-made block, with the textile forms and symbols that represent the unique beauty and contribution of each culture to the Canadian fabric.

The resulting tapestry will be approximately 36 metres (120 feet) long. This immense needlework quilt will travel across Canada to be shared by people from all walks of life. This project was initiated and is coordinated by artist Esther Bryan. It is now a registered on-profit organization with charitable status headquartered in Williamstown, Ontario.
