About Detecting the Truth

The Detecting the Truth: Fakes, Forgeries and Trickery Web exhibition offers youth an interactive learning environment about forgeries and facsimiles in Canada. Through documents held at Library and Archives Canada (LAC), and with the help of resident experts such as archivists, librarians and conservators, users will learn about various types of falsified and legitimately copied documents and how to detect what is real or falsified.

The Detecting the Truth: Fakes, Forgeries and Trickery Web exhibition was produced by LAC's Web Content and Services Division, in collaboration with the Currency Museum and the Bank of Canada.

The guidance and expertise of the following people were essential to this project:

  • LAC archivists, librarians and conservators
  • Debra Roháč of the Currency Museum of the Bank of Canada
  • Mireille Messier, children's literature writer
  • Dave Knox, photographer

We gratefully acknowledge the contribution of the Department of Canadian Heritage, whose financial assistance through Canadian Culture Online made this work possible.
