Mandatory Retirement and the Canadian Human Rights Act
The present study consists of four parts. Part I examines the key substantive issues involved in the debate on whether or not mandatory retirement policies should be eliminated and replaced by flexible retirement policies. Part II presents data on the incidence of mandatory retirement policies among organizations in the federal sector and the perceived impact of eliminating these policies. Part III provides an analysis of the current legal situation concerning mandatory retirement in Canada. Finally, Part IV outlines some policy options for amending the CHRA's provisions concerning mandatory retirement and provides a brief commentary on these options.
