AN ACT TO AMEND THE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT RETIRING ALLOWANCES ACT AND THE PARLIAMENT OF CANADA ACT

Order Fixing July 28, 2003 as the Date of the Coming into Force of Certain Sections of the Act

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, pursuant to subsection 13(2) of An Act to amend the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act and the Parliament of Canada Act, assented to on June 19, 2003, being chapter 16 of the Statutes of Canada, 2003, hereby fixes July 28, 2003 as the day on which sections 10 to 12 of that Act come into force.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Order fixes July 28, 2003 as the day on which sections 10 to 12 of An Act to amend the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act and the Parliament of Canada Act ("the Act") come into force.

The Act was assented to on June 19, 2003. The provisions being brought into force amend the Parliament of Canada Act by

(a) providing compensation for Chairs and Vice-Chairs of Special Committees on the same basis as compensation provided for Chairs and Vice-Chairs of Standing Committees;

(b) including ministerial salaries in the rounding provisions; and

(c) clarifying the calculation of the disability allowance.
