Vol. 137, No. 17 August 13, 2003 Registration FOOD AND DRUGS ACT Regulations Amending the Food and Drug Regulations (1389 Specified Risk Material)P.C. 2003-1057 23 July, 2003 Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Health, pursuant to subsection 30(1) (see footnote a) of the Food and Drugs Act, hereby makes the annexed Regulations Amending the Food and Drug Regulations (1389 Specified Risk Material). REGULATIONS AMENDING THE FOOD AND DRUG REGULATIONS (1389 SPECIFIED RISK MATERIAL) AMENDMENT 1. The Food and Drug Regulations (see footnote 1) are amended by adding the following after section B.01.047: B.01.047.1 (1) The following definitions apply in this section. "BSE" means bovine spongiform encephalopathy. (ESB) "specified risk material" means (a) the skull, brain, trigeminal ganglia, eyes, tonsils, spinal cord and dorsal root ganglia of cattle aged 30 months or older; and (b) the distal ileum of cattle of all ages. (matériel à risque spécifié) (2) No person shall sell or import for sale food that contains specified risk material. (3) Subsection (2) does not apply in respect of food that originates from a country that is designated as being free from BSE in accordance with section 7 of the Health of Animals Regulations. (4) Subsection (2) does not apply in respect of food that is packaged for sale or imported for sale before the day on which this subsection comes into force. COMING INTO FORCE 2. These Regulations come into force on the 31st day after the day on which they are registered. N.B.
