  This paper examines tax mechanisms that can be used to help promote and fund sustainable transportation initiatives. The focus of this issue paper is on the policy rationale behind using certain tax mechanisms, as well as the key issues and challenges encountered by those jurisdictions who have implemented them. • Multimodal Bridges: Moving Barriers to Sustainable Transportation
  Bridges can act as a barrier to active transportation if the design does not accommodate cyclists or walkers. The multimodal bridges case study examines older bridges that have been modified to accommodate walking and cycling, as well as newer bridges whose design allows active forms of transportation in a safe and efficient manner.
