As well as the World Youth Assembly on Road Safety and Canadian Road Safety Youth Conference, other events are being held across Canada on road safety issues or in support of Global Road Safety Week.

April 23-29, 2007: Global Road Safety Week Events Across Canada

Government of Prince Edward Island

  • Launch provincial level public awareness campaign.

Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec

  • Hold press conference on 2006 annual report on road traffic collisions.
  • Launch road safety campaign on speeding.
  • Support advertising campaign on speeding by means of “Leo and Léa” aimed at young people aged 16 to 24.

Government of Alberta

  • Release information bulletin and posting of information on website.

Government of Yukon

  • Launch series of public service announcements produced and voiced by teens on road safety-related topics.
  • Run car wash, tire check and child restraint inspection clinics during Global Road Safety Week.
  • Run road check stops during Global Road Safety Week.
  • Distribute Road Safety Vision 2010 brochures.

Safe Kids Canada

  • Announce a new child passenger safety DVD for parents [view details]

Ontario Community Council on Impaired Driving (OCCID)

  • Launch of Operation Lookout, an awareness campaign encouraging the public to phone 911 or *OPP when they see a suspected impaired driver

May 14-21, 2007: Canada Road Safety Week

This annual event is an education and enforcement activity by Canada's police forces.  It is held during the week before and over the May long weekend.

June 3-6, 2007: Canadian Multidisciplinary Road Safety Conference

Held in conjunction with the Canadian Road Safety Youth Conference, this annual traffic safety conference in Canada is a being organized by Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal under the auspices of Transport Canada and the Société de l’Assurance Automobile du Québec. Participants include government representatives, researchers (academics and students), insurers, enforcement personnel, consultants, motor vehicle industry, manufacturers, medical practioners/administrators, and reconstructionists/defect investigators.
