Democratic choice

Western Canadian farmers are in direct control of the CWB. Since 1998, following legislative changes that put western Canadian farmers directly in control of their marketing organization, farmers elect fellow farmers to the board of directors through democratic elections.

Directors set the strategic direction and approve the guiding principles and fundamental policies. Elected directors represent farmers in charting the course for the marketing of wheat and barley from Western Canada. They do not take direction from the federal government, and are empowered to direct and oversee the management of CWB business affairs.
