Direction:

Aviation Safety Data - Adopting a data-driven approach in developing strategies to enhance safety.

Objective:

To build enhanced capacity in the collection, analysis, evaluation and utilization of safety data throughout the Civil Aviation program.

Initiative Status
Conduct an analysis of the Civil Aviation program's safety information needs
  • Analysis completed in coordination with internal and external stakeholders, in accordance with terms of reference
  • Recommendations approved and implemented
  • Consistent with Government On-Line objectives
Establish a common framework for aviation safety data collection, processing, analysis, evaluation and reporting
  • Framework approved and implemented
  • Validated by review of the quality and usefulness of evaluations and analyses
Integrate safety data collection into the audit and inspection program
  • New comprehensive audit and inspection checklists developed
Develop amendments to the Aeronautics Act providing for voluntary reporting programs
  • Amended Aeronautics Act given Royal assent
Implement a Safety Action and Reporting Program
  • A government/industry working group formed
  • Recommendations accepted and implemented
Track Flight 2005 safety target information
  • Information made available annually to internal and external stakeholders

Expected Result:

Safety data and information are used as a basis for safety management decisions.
