Guides and Outfitters

Tour operators must be licensed by Parks Canada to provide guiding and outfitting services inside Auyuittuq National Park. Local guides and boat operators are available in Pangnirtung and Qikiqtarjuaq to provide transportation from either community to the park boundary.

Visitors planning to access Auyuittuq from Qikiqtarjuaq prior to spring break-up are strongly encouraged to use local guide services for transportation to the park boundary due to high polar bear concentrations at that time of year.

For a current list of licensed tour operators and local guides, please contact the Park Office in Pangnirtung at 867-473-2500.

Maps

You must purchase the proper topographic maps before arriving. Route planning is best done with 1:250,000 maps. A detailed route map for Akshayuk Pass is available for sale at the park office, or can be purchased from the manufacturers website at: www.chrismar.com

Use the following reference map or use the excellent Canada Map Office on-line search tools for finding topographical map coverage. The map office does not sell maps but can provide a list of map distributors and further information about maps.

The Pangnirtung Map, 26-I covers Akshayuk Pass whereas 27-A, 26-O, 26-P and 26-J cover the rest of the park. Navigation should be done with the appropriate 1:50,000 maps.
