Prioritizing Key Services
For a service to be key, it must be considered fundamental to the client of
the department or agency; that is, the service supports or enhances the social
and economic well-being of its clients. It must also support a program of the
department or agency (i.e., direct mandate or business function).
For a key service to be brought on-line, it
should:
- Improve service to the client (i.e., either the service will be more
convenient or there will be a measurable cost or time savings to the
client).
- Make sense to move the service to the electronic channel (i.e., contribute
to more cost effective and efficient information and service delivery).
- Reach a significant portion of the department or agency's clients.
- Enhance the credibility of the Government of Canada.
- Provide possible government-wide benefits to the Government of Canada as a
whole.
- Provide additional benefits, such as opportunities for potential
integration with other services and partners and for re-use of applied
technologies or business practices.
