Notes:

  • Occurrence statistics comprise Canadian-flag vessels as well as foreign-flag vessels in Canadian waters.
  • The Accident Rate pertains to Canadian commercial vessels ¡Ý15 gross registered tons.
  • For international voyages, vessel kilometres are calculated within the 12 nautical mile limit.
  • In the year 2000, Statistics Canada made a change to the treatment of domestic tug and barge movements; and therefore longer term comparisons of activity can not be made.
  • Injuries include both serious and minor injuries.
  • Vessels lost include constructive total losses.
  • For reportable accident and incident definitions, see Transportation Safety Board Regulations Web site:http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-23.4/SOR-92-446/72208.html.
  • The Accident Rate pertains to Canadian vessels over 15 gross registered tons
