Atlantic Canada is served by two national railways (CN and VIA) and 12 regional/short-line railways.

There are approximately 2,400 kilometres of main railway tracks in Atlantic Canada, of which 925 kilometres are operated by CN. Via Rail offers a six-day a week service for passengers travelling between Halifax through eastern New Brunswick to Montreal.

CN provides the only rail connection between the Port of Halifax and the rest of North America. The Halifax Port Authority, CN and other port users work together to optimize the movement of container traffic through the port to destinations in central Canada and the mid-western United States.

For more information on railway lines, go to Atlantic Railways.
