Harbours and Ports protects public investment and interests in the Atlantic Region’s harbours and ports through effective oversight and lease management.

The Harbours and Ports branch works to transfer regional and local ports in the Atlantic Region to local operators who can more effectively match local needs and aspirations with local economic realities. The branch continues to manage Transport Canada port facilities within the Atlantic Region that have not yet been transferred to local operators. We also manage post-transfer issues and refinements with respect to ports and monitor the regional Canada Port Authorities.

Harbours and Ports is proceeding with the implementation of the Divestiture program as outlined in the National Marine Policy, while continuing to operate the remaining sites in a safe, responsible and efficient manner, thereby responding to the needs of a diverse client base and enhancing the potential for future transfers.
