TRANSPORTATION - ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT
A sustainable transportation system
is a system that meets today's needs
for access and economic growth without compromising the ability
of
future generations to meet their own needs.
This chapter discusses energy demand, fuel prices and the main
environmental impacts related to transportation activity. It also
examines transportation trends and the environmental pressures
these trends are exerting on the sector.
Transport Canada took part in a number of key sustainable development
initiatives throughout 2000. This chapter highlights these initiatives,
and looks at other transportation-related sustainable development
activities taking place across Canada.
