TRANSPORTATION AND
THE CANADIAN ECONOMY
The expansion of the Canadian
economy continued in 2000 with
the strong economic growth spread across all regions of Canada.
Transportation activity reflects the state of the economy as
a whole and this chapter sets out the developments in the economy
as a basis for understanding the factors that have affected the
demand for transportation services. It also looks at the contribution
of transportation to the economy both from the perspective of
transportation industries and from the overall demand for transportation
in the economy, including both commercial and private transportation.
